The nation has collapsed, yet mountains and rivers remain there;
spring has visited upon the city, overgrown so far with thickets and trees.
With sentiments in hard times, flowers could even bring tears to my eyes;
I merely grieved for the parting, astonished by the chirping of the birds.
The fires of war has lingered on for a long time;
letters from home would be worth a heap of gold.
I scratched my white-haired head, which has grown even thinner;
now that there is only so little to put a hairpin in.
